Mark grew up on a farm outside of Goessel, Kansas. He attended Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas and graduated with a B.A. in Art in 1988.
In 1989 he began work as a full-time potter for well established clay artist Dick Lehman, at the Old Bag Factory in Goshen, Indiana. Mark’s specialty is functional glazed ware and one-of-a-kind wood-fired pottery.
Today Mark continues to work at Lehman’s studio while pursuing his dream of having a wood kiln and salt kiln of his own at his home in Constantine, Michigan.
"What I love about pottery is both the control and the release—creating the form with my own hands, giving it to the fire and then receiving gifts back from the kiln."
